DeLane Fitzgerald - The Excitement of College Football

As a college football coach who has been active at a number of different universities throughout the past decade and more, DeLane Fitzgerald has a knack for the sport and also believes that it is most exciting to be involved with at this level. There are a number of reason for that, and many of them are described below.

First, college football is exciting because you get to see some of the sport’s upcoming talent before they make it to the professional arena. College football players are, arguably, at their peak of aggressiveness and ambition because they are well aware of the scope that they are playing under. In order to impress the scouts and make it to the next level, they feel the pressure to go above and beyond and make all of those impossible plays possible.

Second, the rivalries are more interesting. College students are young, passionate and fired up for their football teams, which makes them a pleasure to play for. And when a rival team comes into town, the intensity goes up a notch and everyone can feel it. The animosity at some college football games is parallel to none, as the shouting, chanting and bleacher stomping will clearly display.

DeLane Fitzgerald - Mental Attributes of Football Players

Football is a game that is not only reliant on the physical health and strength of the players, but it is also highly dependent on the wits and mental attributes of the players. In order to conduct effective players, players must be able to quickly analyze a situation and make sound judgements in real-time situations. Below are some of those attributes, and a few ways in which they apply on the gridiron.

 Hand Eye Coordination

Hand eye coordination is developed through a combination of both muscle memory as well as mental function. But with good hand eye coordination, you are able to make plays that your opponents won’t see coming. Hand-eye coordination is often the mental attribute behind those plays that leave fans asking, “did you just see that?!?”

Good Judgement

When it comes to quarterbacks, having good judgement is something that can prove to be more valuable than many other physical attributes.  Being able to throw the ball accurately is one thing; being able to throw it to the right person at the right time, however, is a skill that is limited only to great quarterbacks who can make game-changing plays simply by properly assessing the scenario and making the right call.

DeLane Fitzgerald - In Four Downs

The game of football is conducted on a four down basis, which means that each team has four opportunities with the ball before it is turned over to the defense, unless a turnover is forced by a fumble or interception. In those four opportunities, there is lots that can be done, and making the most of those opportunities is a sure-fire way to lead your team to victory. Below are the incentives you have to embrace with each and every single down.

First, you have the opportunity to score. By running or passing the ball into the end zone, you can gain ground on your opponent via the score board.

Second, you can buy more opportunities to move the ball or score. By making a first down, which happens if you get the ball forward ten yards in four attempts, you buy yourself another set of four attempts that can get you closer and closer to the goal.

Third, the team on offense always practices more control over the clock than those on defense, controlling the clock will make the time wok in your favor in sealing a victory. Depending on whether you are winning or losing, there are ways you can buy time to gain more points, or waste time in order to prevent the other team from gaining points.
